scienceinurdu.com

Science in Urdu publishes writing about science, health and medicine in Urdu — a language millions of people think in, and read far too little science in.

Most of what is written about how the body works, what the evidence actually says, and who made the discoveries behind modern medicine exists in English. This site is an attempt to close a little of that gap.

What you will find here

Practical health and nutrition writing — what foods do, what symptoms mean, what is worth worrying about and what is not. Articles on specific conditions and how to reduce your risk of them. Profiles of the scientists behind discoveries that are now taken for granted. And answers to questions readers send in.

Articles are short by design. Most take three minutes to read.

How it is written

Plainly, and without jargon where plain Urdu will do. Where a term only exists in English, it is used and explained rather than replaced with an invented word nobody uses.

Health writing carries a particular responsibility, so nothing here is a substitute for seeing a doctor. It is meant to help you understand your own body and ask better questions — not to diagnose or treat anything.

Reading it your way

Urdu is badly served by most websites. This one lets you choose your typeface — including Nastaliq — along with text size and line spacing, and it remembers your choice. There are four themes, including a true-black one for reading at night.

It also installs as an app and works offline. Anything you save is available without a connection.
